I advise founders and business leaders in their businesses on a weekly basis.
I’m also a keynote speaker. It doesn’t matter the size of the crowd. From 10 to 3,000 people and everything in between.
These days it’s all about giving back and not holding back.
I built a $240m online business in an industry that people had written off and others said Amazon will annihilate you anyway.
The most common feedback I get on why people want to engage me is: “You’ve done it. Most other advisers and speakers have not built what you have done and we need to know what you know.”
Below are quotes from people who know me, worked with me or heard me speak.
My path to entrepreneurship began with a foundation in computer programming. Educated in computer programming at the Control Data Institute, I worked as a programmer and briefly sold computers early in my career, sparking my interest in the business side of technology. After travelling the world for three years and gaining a broader perspective, I ventured into recruitment in London, setting the stage for my first entrepreneurial leap. In 1996, I founded Best People International, an internet recruitment agency that grew significantly under my leadership until its sale to the ASX-listed Volante Group Limited.
The inception of Booktopia was a serendipitous blend of opportunity and strategic foresight. While working in my family’s company, Globalise Pty Ltd, I played a crucial role in the birth and growth of Booktopia. Starting as a sideline project, it quickly became a focal point of my career. As CEO from 2007 until 2022, I stood at the helm as Booktopia grew from a fledgling online bookstore to a titan in the Australian book and online retail industry.
My Booktopia journey continues as a Director and substantial shareholder – propelling innovation and championing the brand’s sustained growth.
Throughout my career, I’ve been honoured with many awards, including the Industry Recognition Award at the Online Retailer Industry Awards in 2018. I was also listed in Who’s Who of Australia in 2019. Beyond business, I am a Life Member of the Wilderness Society, the RSPCA (NSW) and the Australian Republican Movement and actively contribute to causes that benefit society and the environment.
My journey isn’t just about entrepreneurship and scaling companies, it’s about inspiring positive change, fostering innovation and contributing to a better world for all.
